Statement of Principles
We recognize that the Pacific Ecology and Evolution Conference is a gathering designed by the student community and for the student community. Our actions as organizers and participants must necessarily reflect this ethos of service. We are committed to developing and maintaining an environment built on respect and mutual support towards each other.
We therefore strive as an organization and as participants to welcome each other and reject discrimination in all its forms, whether it be based on class, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic class, religion, disability or any other variety. This rejection must take the form of more than just words and thoughts. We will work together to combat these issues as they arise and take concrete steps to prevent them from taking root.
We as organizers will seek to not only reject discrimination in its present forms, but also work to combat the legacies of past acts, and will implement a reparative approach to designing our gathering, using it to reflect the actual diversity of our field and uplift marginalized voices.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
The Pacific Ecology and Evolution Conference is committed to creating an environment free from discrimination and harassment, where individuals are treated with respect, equity, dignity, and fairness. We aim to highlight, promote, and encourage diversity and provide equal opportunities in order to foster a safe, engaging, and collaborative environment for all attendees.

The Aims of the statement are to (1) promote inclusive practices to ensure all conference attendees are treated with respect and equally; (2) to encourage all individuals participating in PEEC or PEEC adjacent events to communicate with one another respectfully and fairly and (3) to clearly communicate our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in science.

PEEC is committed to improving DEI in our capacity to do so. Our objectives include:
- Recognize and value the differences in those individuals participating in PEEC and beyond.
- Confront and challenge discrimination based on race, gender, disability, national origin, sex and sexual orientation or identity, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and parenthood.
- Promote and engage in ways to increase equity, diversity, and inclusion and ensure these values are central when planning PEEC events.
- Not tolerate discriminatory language or practices that label, stereotype, oppress, silence, or demean others.
- Provide ways for members and participants to provide feedback and suggestions on improving EDI strategies and approaches.
- Integrate these objectives into all PEEC conferences and events.
